The Collection is a historical drama set in post-World War II France that revolves around the fictional Sabine family and their prestigious fashion house. The show was created by Oliver Goldstick and produced by Amazon Studios. The Collection premiered on September 2, 2016.

The story takes place in 1947 Paris where the fashion house is operated by brothers Paul and Claude Sabine. The company, which was previously catering to the German women's desire for luxury during wartime, is in need of a new creative director who can take it to the next level. Enter American designer, Billy Novak, played by Tom Riley, who was scouted by Paul Sabine to come to Paris and revive the collection with his innovative designs.

Richard Coyle plays Paul Sabine, one of the two brothers running the fashion house. Paul is depicted as a man with a keen eye for business and aesthetics, yet he is also tormented by inner demons. Throughout the show, he struggles with his sexuality and the loss of his son. He is a complex and intriguing character with a passion for fashion that's rivalled only by his dark personal life, which makes for some riveting scenes.

Mamie Gummer plays Helen Sabine, Paul's American wife. Helen is an American in Paris filled with dreams and ambition. She is the driving force behind the fashion house's expansion into the American market. However, her involvement with the house soon becomes clouded as her strained relationship with her husband is exposed.

The Collection is a sumptuous feast for the eyes, with the lavish Parisian sets and gorgeous costumes that capture the glamour of high fashion during the post-World War II era. The costumes are designed by Chattoune and Fab, who have masterfully captured the elegance and rebellion of fashion during that time. The fashion house collection is filled with luxurious evening gowns, tailored suits, and chic ensembles, paying homage to designers like Dior and Balenciaga.

The show addresses complex social and political issues that plagued France in the aftermath of the war. The Sabine family and their fashion house were directly impacted by the wartime experience which forced them to collaborate with the Nazi regime if they wished to survive. The show keeps addressing the impact of the French Resistance on high fashion and how prepared they were to face another war.

The show has a diverse ensemble cast, with the Sabine family as the central focus. However, the minor characters also have their storylines that add depth to the overall arc. From Nina, the seamstress, Henriette, the house model, to Marianne, the photographer, each character offers a different perspective that enriches the show.

The Collection has an overarching narrative, involving the family who runs the couture house, but individual episodes each offer their storylines. From the showdowns between public figures, the clash of loyalties, to romantic entanglements, each episode serves a new drama that will leave you wanting more.

The one downside of the show is that it only lasted for one season with eight episodes, leaving fans wanting more. It is a show that presents a fascinating mix of history, fashion, and drama that can keep audiences hooked.

In conclusion, The Collection is a captivating historical drama that kept audiences glued to the screen. With gorgeous costumes, complex characters, and an intriguing plot, it represents an enticing mix of fashion and drama. Amazon Studios never continued production, leaving fans yearning for more, even after years of the show's initial release debut.

The Collection is a series that is currently running and has 1 seasons (8 episodes). The series first aired on September 2, 2016.
