Barry Allen is a forensic scientist who gains superhuman speed after being struck by lightning in a freak accident. With the help of his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs, he becomes known as The Flash and fights crime in his hometown of Central City. But they are ambushed by the villain himself, who easily defeats The Flash and nearly kills him. The Reverse-Flash then visits S.T.A.R. Labs, taunting the team and revealing that he has been working with Harrison Wells, the head of the lab and Barry's mentor.

As the team races to find a way to stop the Reverse-Flash, they learn that he is planning to set off a bomb in the city center during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Barry, still recovering from his injuries, tries to stop him but is once again overpowered. The Reverse-Flash then reveals his true identity to Barry, shocking him to his core.

The episode ends with a twist that sets up the rest of the season and leaves viewers on the edge of their seats.
