Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) has been dealing with a lot lately. After facing down his arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne, also known as Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh), and saving his mother from death in the process, he's been trying to take things slow and adjust to his new life. But as we all know, trouble has a way of finding our favorite red-clad speedster.
In "The Reverse-Flash Returns," the second episode of The Flash's second season, Barry finds himself face to face with his old enemy yet again. This time, Reverse-Flash has traveled through time to wreak havoc on Central City once more. But how is this possible? Didn't Barry stop him? These are all questions that our hero will be grappling with as he tries to prevent the newest crisis from happening.
As Barry struggles to figure out how to stop Reverse-Flash, he also has to deal with the fallout from his decision to travel back in time and save his mother. His friends and family are grappling with the consequences of his actions, and Barry is left feeling guilty for what he's done. But he knows that time is of the essence, and he can't let his mistakes distract him from his duties as The Flash.
Throughout the episode, we see Barry working tirelessly to try and stop Reverse-Flash. He uses all of his speed and all of his wit, but he soon realizes that he's going to need help if he's going to win this fight. And so, he turns to an unlikely ally - Eobard Thawne's captive ancestor, Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh).
Wells is a fascinating character, as we know from Season 1. As the founder of S.T.A.R. Labs, he was one of Barry's closest confidants and mentors, but he was also revealed to be the person who created the particle accelerator that gave Barry his powers in the first place. In this episode, Barry is forced to put aside his anger and mistrust to work with Wells in order to stop Reverse-Flash.
There are a lot of tense moments in this episode, as the stakes are always high when it comes to battling Reverse-Flash. But what really sets this episode apart is the emotional weight that it carries. Barry's guilt and regret over his decision to tamper with time weighs heavily on him, and we see the toll that it's taking on his relationships with his friends, family, and even his enemies.
But at the same time, we see Barry growing and changing as a result of his experiences. He's learning to accept that he can't fix everything, and that sometimes the best thing he can do is just be there for the people he cares about. And even in the face of impossible challenges, he never loses hope that he can make a difference.
Overall, "The Reverse-Flash Returns" is a fantastic episode of The Flash. It's full of action, suspense, and emotion, and it does a great job of continuing the storylines from earlier in the season while also introducing new twists and turns that keep audiences on their toes. Whether you're a die-hard fan of The Flash or just looking for a great episode of superhero television, this one is definitely worth checking out.
