The Great British Baking Show Season 6 Episode 1

Ep 1. Biscuits Week

  • November 9, 2018

In the season 6 premiere episode of The Great British Baking Show, the contestants face the challenge of Biscuit Week. The tent is filled with the delicious aroma of baked biscuits as the contestants try to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry with their repertoire of biscuit recipes.

As always, the first round is the Signature Bake, where the bakers have to show off their creativity and skill by baking a batch of their personal favorite biscuits. They have two-and-a-half hours to complete the task and the judges are looking for biscuits with a good bake, perfect snap, and consistent texture. The contestants pull out all the stops to impress the judges with their signature biscuits, some of them opting to use exotic ingredients, while others rely on traditional recipes.

In the Technical Challenge, the bakers are tasked with making the classic Florentine biscuit. The Florentine is a delicate Italian treat, made with a mixture of honey, sugar, almonds, and candied fruit. The challenge is to create a perfectly baked, perfectly shaped Florentine, with a generous coating of chocolate on the base. The judges taste and rank the Florentines anonymously, without any knowledge of who baked them.

For the Showstopper Challenge, the bakers have to create a 3D biscuit sculpture. This is the final chance for the contestants to showcase their imagination and expertise in creating impressive and aesthetically pleasing structures. The bakers go all out to create elaborate scenes and statues, ranging from towering castles, to enchanting gardens, to elaborate mythological creatures.

Throughout the episode, the contestants face a number of challenges, ranging from getting the timings right, to choosing the right flavors, to dealing with unexpected disasters. But despite the pressure, there is a sense of camaraderie among the bakers, with many offering encouragement and support to each other.

Throughout the episode, we see the personalities of the contestants shine through, from the quirky to the confident to the anxious. Hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc keep the mood light with their trademark humor and wit, while the judges offer their usual insightful commentary on the bakers' creations.

By the end of the episode, the judges have chosen the Star Baker, as well as the contestant who will be leaving the show. But regardless of their ranking, each contestant has demonstrated their passion and creativity for baking, leaving viewers hungry for more.
