The Haunted Hathaways is an American television sitcom about a family relocating from New York City to New Orleans, only to discover that the house they've moved into is already home to a family of ghosts. The show premiered its first season on Nickelodeon on July 13, 2013, and the first episode is titled "Pilot."

In the first episode, we are introduced to the Hathaway family, which consists of Michelle, a single mother, and her two daughters, 14-year-old Taylor and 9-year-old Frankie. Michelle, who has just been hired as a pastry chef at a hotel in New Orleans, decides to move her family from New York City to Louisiana to begin a new life. After arriving in New Orleans and touring a few houses, the family comes across a beautiful and spacious home that seems to be too good to be true. The real estate agent reveals that the previous tenant passed away in the house, but Michelle is not deterred and decides to rent the house.

The Hathaway family is excited to start their new life in New Orleans, but they quickly realize that their new home is already occupied by a ghostly family, the Prestons. The Prestons consist of a father, Ray, his wife, Michelle, and their daughter, Louie. The Prestons reveal themselves to the Hathaways when Taylor falls through the ceiling and lands in the Prestons' bedroom. At first, the Hathaways are scared and want to leave the house, but they eventually agree to coexist with the Prestons.

The rest of the episode follows the Hathaways trying to adjust to their new ghostly roommates. The Prestons appear to be friendly and genuinely happy to have the Hathaways living with them. However, the Hathaways quickly realize that living with ghosts is not always easy. The Prestons have the ability to teleport, phase through walls, and even possess the bodies of the living. Whenever they teleport, they leave behind a cloud of ectoplasm, which Taylor finds incredibly gross. Frankie, on the other hand, is fascinated by the ghosts and wants to spend all her time with them.

Throughout the episode, the two families try to establish some ground rules for living together. The Hathaways try to teach the Prestons about living with living people, such as knocking before entering a room and not scaring people. The Prestons try to teach the Hathaways about living with ghosts, such as avoiding ghost food, not walking through ghost portals, and not opening doors that they've closed.

Despite the challenges of living with ghosts, the Hathaways seem to be adapting well to their new home. Taylor even develops a crush on one of the ghost boys, Miles. However, the episode ends with a spooky twist. While the family is sitting together in their living room, they hear a strange noise coming from upstairs. Michelle tells everyone to stay put as she goes to investigate. She climbs the stairs, and as she reaches the top, a ghostly hand reaches out from one of the rooms and grabs her ankle.

The first episode of The Haunted Hathaways sets the stage for an entertaining and spooky show. The premise of a family living with ghosts is fresh and exciting, and the interactions between the living and the dead provide plenty of comedic moments. The show balances humor with just the right amount of spookiness to keep things interesting. Overall, the pilot episode establishes a strong foundation for the rest of the season.
