The British sitcom The Inbetweeners ran for three seasons in the U.K. before transferring to a movie format set after the completion of the third season. Set in the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive School The Inbetweeners follows the life of teenager Will McKenzie, played by Simon Bird and his attempts to finish school with good grades and attend university. Alongside Will are three friends, Simon, Jay and Neil who spend their time trying to find girlfriends and using extreme language to insult each other. The Inbetweeners was the first show produced by Bwark Production for the cable channel E4, a sister channel to the British network Channel 4. After first airing on E4 all three seasons later transferred to Channel 4 and have been shown around the world, in countries including Spain, Iceland, New Zealand and in the U.S. on BBC America. Season one of The Inbetweeners focuses on the move of Will McKenzie from a private school to Rudge Park Comprehensive,a state operated school. Each episode opens and closes with a voice-over from Will, in the first episode Will meets the other three characters of Simon, Neil and Jay, played by Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison. Other main characters in the seasons include the object of Will's love obsession Charlotte Hinchcliffe, played by Emily Atack. In 2011, The Inbetweeners movie was released and focuses on the group of friends travelling to Crete on vacation after the completion of school. The movie made over $40 million at the U.K. box office and was later released in the U.S. An American version of the show has completed a single season. The U.S. version of The Inbetweeners was eventually produced by MTV after American network ABC abandoned its planned version of the sitcom.
