Doug and Carrie are out with friends Deacon and Kelly and are discussing a recent news segment about a man who successfully faked his own death to escape financial and legal trouble. This leads to a conversation about what they would do if faced with life in prison. Doug confidently says he would find a way to escape or have someone break him out, leading to a discussion about the logistics of such a plan.

The next day, Doug is at work when he receives a call from a random man informing him that he has been selected for jury duty. Doug is initially excited about the prospect of missing work, but quickly changes his tune when he realizes that the case is a murder trial with the possibility of the death penalty.

Doug is chosen as the foreman of the jury and takes his role very seriously, studying the evidence and presenting it to the other jurors. However, when it comes time to deliberate, Doug finds himself the lone holdout for a guilty verdict. The rest of the jury is pressuring him to change his mind, and Doug is torn between his duty as a juror and his own conscience.

Meanwhile, Carrie is dealing with her own dilemma - her favorite hairdresser, Franco, is in jail for not paying his taxes. Carrie gets the idea to help Franco escape by faking his death and having him start a new life elsewhere, just like the man they discussed at the beginning of the episode. However, things quickly go awry when Franco's "body" is mistakenly cremated, leaving Carrie feeling guilty and responsible for his demise.

Back at the courthouse, Doug is still holding his ground as the other jurors become increasingly hostile towards him. He even manages to convince one of the jurors to change their mind, but it's not enough to sway the entire group. Just as the situation seems dire, a shocking turn of events changes everything and Doug is left to grapple with the consequences of his actions.

Overall, this episode deals with the serious topic of the criminal justice system and the weight that comes with serving on a jury. It also touches on the morality of breaking the law and the lengths people will go to in order to avoid punishment. As always, there are plenty of laughs to be had, but the underlying themes make it one of the more thought-provoking episodes of the season.
