Ep 7. Criminal Minded

Tray Barker, played by Tracy Morgan, is a man who has just been released from prison after over a decade of incarceration. He returns to his hometown of Brooklyn to find that the neighborhood he once knew has drastically changed. Tray's ex-girlfriend Shay, played by Tiffany Haddish, is now married to a successful white man and living in a fancy brownstone. She has two children and has moved on from her past life with Tray. Feeling out of place and lost in his old stomping ground, Tray turns to his cousin Bobby, played by Allen Maldonado, for guidance.

In season 2 episode 7, "Criminal Minded," Tray is trying to turn his life around and find a sense of purpose outside of his criminal past. He decides to apply for a job at a local coffee shop, but things don't go as planned. When he arrives for the interview, the manager assumes that Tray is there to rob the place and calls the police. Tray finds himself in handcuffs once again, even though he did nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, Shay and Josh, played by Ryan Gaul, are dealing with their own issues. Their daughter Amira, played by Taylor Mosby, is getting singled out in school for being different than the other kids. Shay decides to take matters into her own hands and confront the school's principal, but her plan backfires and Amira faces even more discrimination as a result.

Back at the coffee shop, Tray's cousin Bobby decides to take matters into his own hands and tries to rob the place himself to prove a point. But things don't go as planned, and Bobby finds himself in a dangerous situation. Tray must decide whether to help his cousin or walk away from his criminal past for good.

The episode tackles issues of race, discrimination, and criminal justice reform. It also highlights the struggles of ex-convicts trying to turn their lives around and the barriers they face in doing so. With humor and heart, "Criminal Minded" is a poignant episode that highlights the challenges facing marginalized communities in America today.
