After a theme song, the host comes in through an elevator-like contraption and is escorted down the stairs by announcer, Rodney Perry. She performs a monologue before conducting celebrity interviews and featurig musical performances by variety of artists. Comedy skits are also performed by the host along with Rodney Perry. In-house band, Big Jim's Penthouse Players perform a variety of musical numbers. In addition, resident DJ, Ant Love spins popular tunes to keep the energy upbeat. Although aired on the BET network, Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta, Georgia records the program. The show's distinction stems from the fact that it features culturally specific urban humor that is intended to appeal to a progressive audience. For example, well-known comedian Steve Harvey and singer Ludacris are typical guests on the show. Also, the show features many new up-and-coming acts and talent of a variety of types. The show also acknowledges the various contributions that guests who appear on the show have made to benefit the overall social community. The show is known for its positive energy and its notoriety stems not only from the comedienne-host herself, but the celebratory tone for the fact that she is one of the few African American women to host a late night show of its type. The debut episode featured Steve Harvey promoting his book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy and Commitment. Singer Monica also promoted her show on BET called Monica: Still Standing. Singer Jeremih did a live performance of Imma Star (Everywhere We Are). At the end of every show, Mo'Nique offers final thoughts that pertain to the original monologue at the start of the show, as well as the guests who appeared on each episode. Following the final thoughts, she uplifts the audience by instructing the studio guests and home viewers to give themselves a big hug.
