Ep 1. Where You Left Your Heart

After almost a year since the fourth season finale, The Originals is back with its fifth and final season, starting off with an episode titled “Where You Left Your Heart”.

The episode opens with a flashback scene to eight years ago, where Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) are seen in Paris, drinking and having a good time. Meanwhile, Klaus is still in Europe searching for his daughter, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), who enrolled in the school and erased her father's memory. As he struggles with the memories that keep resurfacing, he realizes that he must travel back to New Orleans to ensure that his daughter is safe, and to find a way to remind himself of their connection.

Back in New Orleans, Hayley is still missing after her journey to find the cure to turn her hybrid daughter, Hope, into a full vampire. She has left behind a trail of clues for Elijah (Daniel Gillies) to follow and find her. With the help of a few friends, including the mysterious Antoinette (Jaime Murray), Elijah tries to piece together the clues and find Hayley.

Meanwhile, Freya (Riley Voelkel) discovers that Keelin (Christina Moses) has been hiding something from her and the rest of the family. She realizes that Keelin has been working on some secret research involving a mysterious serum. It becomes clear that this serum holds the key to finding Hayley, but Keelin is hesitant to share her findings.

As Klaus arrives back in New Orleans, he is faced with the task of rebuilding his relationships with the people he left behind years ago.
