The Pizza Show season 1 episode 6, titled "Special Slice", takes viewers on a journey to explore some of the most unique and inventive pizza styles found in the United States. Host Frank Pinello travels to different cities across the country to see how local pizzerias are creating mouth-watering pizzas with unexpected and unusual toppings.

The episode begins in Philadelphia, where Frank visits Pizzeria Beddia. This popular pizzeria is known for its minimalist approach to pizza-making, with only a few types of pies available, each made with high-quality ingredients. Frank is particularly impressed by their white pizza topped with clams, garlic, and parsley, which he declares is one of the best pizzas he's ever had.

Next, the show takes us to Detroit, where Frank meets up with Shawn Randazzo, owner of Detroit Style Pizza Co. Detroit-style pizza is known for its thick, rectangular crusts that are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Shawn shows Frank how to make a classic Detroit-style pizza with toppings like pepperoni and onions, and then they get creative and make a pizza with hot dogs and mustard on top.

In Austin, Texas, Frank visits a pizzeria called Bufalina, which specializes in Neapolitan-style pizza. The owners pride themselves on using only the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients and cooking their pizzas in a wood-fired oven at a blistering 900 degrees. Frank tries their spicy salami and tomato pizza, which he says is perfectly balanced and delicious.

The episode then takes us to Los Angeles, where Frank checks out the offerings at Pizzana, a modern pizzeria that serves up creative pies like one topped with roasted cauliflower, pine nuts, and golden raisins. Frank is a little skeptical about this flavor combination, but after one bite, he's a believer.

Finally, the show heads to New York City, where Frank visits Emmy Squared, a pizzeria that specializes in Detroit-style pizza. Emmy Squared is known for their "Le Big Matt" pizza, which is essentially a Detroit-style pizza topped with cheeseburger fixings like ground beef, special sauce, and pickles. Frank is blown away by the sheer audacity of this pizza, and declares it a must-try for anyone visiting New York.

Throughout the episode, Frank meets with the passionate pizzaiolos who are pushing the boundaries of what pizza can be. He learns about the different regional styles of pizza, and how each one reflects the character and culture of the city where it was invented. "Special Slice" is a love letter to pizza, and a reminder that there's always something new and exciting to discover in the world of pizza-making.
