In the third episode of The Sarah Silverman Program, titled "Positively Negative", Sarah finds out that she has contracted a sexually transmitted infection (STI). She tries to remain positive about the situation, but her friends and family react in different ways, ranging from supportive to insensitive.

At first, Sarah tries to downplay the situation by joking about it with her friends, as she does with most things in her life. However, her roommates Laura and Brian are concerned for her health and strongly encourage her to seek medical treatment. Sarah reluctantly agrees and goes to the doctor to get tested and treated for the STI.

While at the doctor's office, Sarah meets with a nurse who lectures her about safe sex practices and the importance of taking care of her body. Sarah dismisses the nurse's advice, but when she gets home she starts to feel ashamed and embarrassed about her situation.

In an effort to make herself feel better, Sarah throws a "STD party" at her apartment, inviting all of her friends to come and get tested together. While the party initially seems like a fun and lighthearted way to deal with a difficult situation, tensions arise when some of Sarah's friends test positive for STIs as well.

Adding to the drama, Sarah's sister Laura (who also happens to be one of her roommates) is going through a difficult breakup with her boyfriend Steve. Laura becomes overly emotional and starts lashing out at Sarah and Brian, accusing them of not being supportive enough of her situation. Sarah tries to comfort her sister, but quickly becomes frustrated with her behavior and lack of gratitude.

In the midst of all the chaos, Sarah receives a call from the doctor's office with her test results. While she is relieved to find out that her treatment worked and her STI has cleared up, she also feels a sense of disappointment in herself for not taking better care of her body.

Throughout the episode, Sarah struggles to come to terms with her own sexuality and the consequences of her actions. She learns important lessons about safe sex practices and the importance of taking care of one's health, but also feels a sense of shame and embarrassment about her previous choices.

Despite the heavy subject matter, "Positively Negative" features plenty of the irreverent humor and sharp wit that fans of The Sarah Silverman Program have come to love. The episode tackles a serious issue in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, making it a standout installment in the show's first season.
