In episode 4 of The Serpent, the hunt for the elusive killer Charles Sobhraj continues. The episode begins with the arrival of Dutch diplomat Herman Knippenberg in Bangkok, who is determined to find the truth behind the mysterious disappearances of several young backpackers in Southeast Asia.

Knippenberg meets with the local police and presents them with evidence suggesting that Sobhraj is behind the disappearances, but the police are reluctant to believe him. He then sets out on his own investigation, gathering information from a variety of sources and following leads that take him across the border to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Sobhraj and his accomplice, Ajay Chowdhury, are becoming increasingly paranoid and desperate. They know that the authorities are closing in on them, and they fear that they may soon be captured or killed. Sobhraj decides to make a run for it, leaving Chowdhury behind to cover his tracks and throw the police off his scent.

As he travels across the border into Thailand, Sobhraj comes into contact with a group of young backpackers who are on their way to Kathmandu. He befriends them and begins to ingratiate himself into their group, hoping to use them as a cover for his criminal activities. However, one of the backpackers, a young Dutch woman named Saskia, begins to suspect that Sobhraj is not who he claims to be.

Back in Bangkok, Knippenberg has made a breakthrough in his investigation. He has identified several key witnesses who can provide crucial evidence against Sobhraj, and he is working to persuade them to come forward. However, he soon discovers that his own safety is at risk, as Sobhraj begins to target him and his family in an effort to silence him.

As the episode draws to a close, the tension between Sobhraj and the authorities reaches a boiling point. With the noose tightening around his neck, Sobhraj prepares to make his final stand. But will he succeed in evading justice, or will his past crimes finally catch up with him?

Overall, episode 4 of The Serpent is a gripping and intense installment in the series, full of twists and turns as the various characters race towards their respective goals. The strong performances from the cast, along with the evocative setting of Southeast Asia, make for a truly engaging viewing experience that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
