"The Spoils of Babylon" is a comedic spoof of those cheesy 1970s and 1980s era soap opera cliffhanger TV shows like "The Thorn Birds." Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele are the creative forces behind the show. Will Ferrell doesn't appear in the actual mini-series plot, but plays the role of Eric Jonrosh, the author-producer-director-writer-raconteur, etc. who was behind the "original" fictional show. He's reviving it for a new audience.

The show follows the tribulations of Devon Morehouse, played by Tobey Maguire of "Spiderman" fame. Morehouse is the adopted son of Jonas Morehouse, played by Tim Robbins. Kristen Wiig plays Cynthia Morehouse, Jonas' real daughter. Devon and Cynthia lead a stormy personal life as they become lovers and also key rivals for the control of the Jonas Morehouse oil company and fortune.

The show also features an A-list cast of stars including Val Kilmer, Jessica Alba, Haley Joel Osment, and Steve Tom. It was filmed around Los Angeles. Characters are enveloped by a web of love, deceit, and deception as they stumble through oil fields, war, opulent mansions, bedrooms, and passion in the quest for power and money. the entire miniseries runs for three hours, but is divided into six episodes.
