The Stacey Dooley Investigates Collection Season 1 Episode 1 Kids for Sale

  • October 1, 2009

In the first episode of the Stacey Dooley Investigates Collection season 1, entitled "Kids for Sale," Stacey travels to the Philippines to investigate the disturbing phenomenon of child trafficking.

Stacey begins by visiting a renowned shelter for former child prostitutes in Manila, where she interviews young girls about their harrowing experiences. Some of the girls were as young as 11 years old when they were coerced or abducted into the sex trade, and many had endured years of abuse and exploitation before finally escaping.

Stacey also speaks with anti-trafficking activists who explain the many factors that contribute to the problem, including poverty, corruption, and the demand for child labor and sex workers. Stacey meets with families who have been forced to sell their children in order to survive, as well as with women who have been trafficked themselves and now work to prevent others from being victimized.

As Stacey delves deeper into the issue, she visits the infamous red light district in Angeles City, where underage girls are openly sold to foreign sex tourists. She also interviews a man who was once a customer of child prostitutes, but now works to raise awareness about the problem and to rehabilitate former victims.

Throughout the episode, Stacey underscores the gravity of child trafficking and the importance of taking action to prevent it. She also raises questions about the role of Western countries in perpetuating the demand for child sex tourism, and highlights the role of grassroots organizations in combating trafficking locally.
