The Unicorn season 1 episode 10 is titled "Anna and the Unicorn". The series follows widower father Wade, played by Walton Goggins, who is newly single and ready to start dating again. He is supported by his close friends and family as he navigates the ups and downs of modern dating.
In this episode, Wade's daughter Grace is having a school dance and he is proud to see her put on a beautiful dress and get ready for the big night. He even pretends to be her date for a quick photo before she heads out. As he prepares to spend a quiet night at home with no plans, his friends push him to go out and have some fun. He agrees and ends up meeting Anna, played by Maya Lynne Robinson, a smart and confident woman who shares his love for softball.
The two hit it off and go out on a date that turns out to be a disaster. However, Wade is truly smitten by Anna and is determined to give it another try. Meanwhile, Grace is having a tough time at the dance when her crush asks someone else to dance with him. One of Wade's friends, Michelle, played by the wonderful Maya Rudolph, offers Grace some advice and insights on how to handle the situation.
Back at home, Wade and Anna's second date goes much better, and they end up sharing an intimate moment. However, Wade starts to wonder if it's too soon to move on from his wife and whether he is ready to take his relationship with Anna to the next level. As he grapples with these feelings, he receives a surprise visitor in the form of Anna's daughter, who suddenly shows up at his door.
The episode is a heartwarming and funny exploration of the challenges of dating as a widower and as a parent of a teenager. It touches on themes of loss, grief, and the importance of moving on while still honoring the memory of a loved one. The performances are outstanding, particularly that of Goggins and Robinson, who have great chemistry on screen. The writing is sharp and witty, and the show continues to strike a perfect balance between humor and heart.
