Ep 3. Original Sin

Elena and Caroline are adjusting to college life while trying to keep their supernatural abilities under wraps. Stefan is still missing and Damon has to find his brother while dealing with his own inner demons. Meanwhile, Silas is still on the prowl and has his sights set on something that will give him ultimate power – the cure. With Bonnie still dead, Jeremy is struggling with the loss of his girlfriend and his new role as supernatural hunter, but when Dr. Maxfield arrives on campus, their worlds are about to collide in unexpected ways.

In episode 3 "Original Sin," fans are taken on a trip down memory lane as we're granted a glimpse of Silas's past. The episode follows Elena and Katherine as they make their way to Grayson College where Megan (an old friend of Elena's) is attending school. Shortly after arriving, Megan winds up dead, which sets off a chain reaction of events that lead Damon and Stefan to uncover a dark secret in Mystic Falls' history. While investigating Megan's death, Damon comes across a picture of her and Silas. He is able to confirm that the immortal siren has returned to Mystic Falls and is up to no good once again.

In the midst of all the chaos, Bonnie's father Rudy Hopkins comes to town to do some research on his daughter's death. As he's looking into the circumstances surrounding her passing, he begins to suspect that there's more to her death than meets the eye. When he confronts Jeremy about this, the young boy reluctantly reveals that he's been seeing Bonnie's ghost. Unbeknownst to the others, Bonnie (or at least her spirit) is still out there, and with each passing day, she's becoming more and more powerful.

As the episode progresses, tensions begin to rise between Stefan and Elena, who both have different ideas about how they should handle their separate relationships. Elena is trying to convince herself that she and Damon are meant to be together, but Stefan is refusing to let go of his feelings for her. Frustrated with the situation, Elena lashes out at Caroline, causing a rift between the two best friends.

Meanwhile, back in Mystic Falls, Dr. Maxfield has his eyes set on Jesse, one of the students at Whitmore College. Unaware of the vampire's true intentions, Jesse agrees to be experimented on, which leads to disastrous consequences. In a shocking turn of events, Damon comes face to face with Silas, and what he learns from the immortal siren will shake the very foundation of Mystic Falls.

Overall, "Original Sin" is a thrilling episode that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. The show's creators have once again delivered an episode that is equal parts action-packed and emotionally charged. With the return of Silas, the introduction of Bonnie's father, and the emotional turmoil of the show's main characters, there's something for everyone in this episode.
