Televised game shows have a long and storied history, but most of them follow a similar premise. This usually involves contestants answering trivia questions or winning various challenges as a means to earn cash and other prizes. However, a new breed of game show has arrived in which the stakes are higher than ever before, and the traditional settings have changed significantly. Total Blackout is exemplary of this new trend of game shows because it takes some of the familiar aspects of game shows that people love and combines them with new innovations. On Total Blackout, contestants must compete with each other in a number of different contests that often involve touching or sensing objects. Some of the objects are normal, everyday items that one could find in any home. Other items are a bit more unpleasant. This would seem like an enjoyable premise, but there is one more important twist
