Tracey Ullman's State of the Union

Comedienne Tracey Ullman has returned with her latest sketch comedy show, Tracey Ullman's State of the Union. With this new series, Ullman has taken a nod from the short sketches and comedy videos that have populated the Internet and created a sketch comedy show where each sketch is incredibly short and brief, jumping to the next subject in a matter of minutes - and in some cases, seconds.

Ullman brings her chameleon-like ability to imitate popular celebrities and personalities to Tracey Ullman's State of the Union, satirizing such people as Cameron Diaz, Renee Zellweger, Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina Lohan, Nancy Pelosi and a recurring bit where she impersonates famous blogger Arianna Huffington, the creator of The Huffington Post. Ullman's rendition of Huffington shows her as a blog-obsessed mad woman who cannot have a single conversation with saying the word "blog" in every sentence. Ullman even goes as far as to go in drag to play famous tennis player David Beckham and actor Tony Sirico. Ullman is able to transform into these celebrities with the help of elaborate special effects makeup appliances that assist her in looking very close to the people being lampooned in each episode of the series.

Apart from the celebrity impersonations found in the three seasons of Tracey Ullman's State of the Union, Ullman also creates many original characters to satirize anything and everything in every day life. One of the main highlights of her original characters is that of an Indian pharmacist named Padma. While helping her pharmacy customers understand the side effects and dosage of their medications, Padma breaks out into song and dance numbers that are heavily influenced and stylized after Bollywood musicals, complete with elaborate choreography and bright and colorful set design. As the series goes on, Padma's song and dance numbers begin to get more outrageous, completely abandoning the concept of her singing about prescription medications and side effects to broader topics.
