When we hear the word Vietnam, we immediately think about the war. However, Vietnam also houses some of the most unique and diverse animals in the world. In Vet Gone Wild season 1 episode 4, we follow the renowned veterinarian Dr. Chris Brown as he travels to Vietnam to learn about the conservation efforts being made to save their endangered species.

Dr. Chris starts at the Endangered Primate Rescue Center where he meets some adorable primates including Langurs, Gibbons, and Lorises. He is quickly informed about the shocking reality that these primates face in Vietnam; they are often hunted and sold into the illegal pet trade. Dr. Chris then works closely with the dedicated staff at the center to diagnose and treat the injuries of these rescued primates.

Moving on, he visits the dense jungles of Vietnam's national parks where he hopes to catch a glimpse of the elusive and critically endangered Cat Ba Langur. With only a population of fewer than 100 individuals, this species is on the brink of extinction. Dr. Chris witnesses the conservation efforts underway to protect and rehabilitate these elusive primates.

Next, Dr. Chris visits Turtle Island, located in the southern part of the country. Once home to a vast population of sea turtles, Turtle Island is now a haven for poachers who hunt the turtles and their eggs for their meat and shells. Dr. Chris observes the work of local conservationists who have committed to saving these turtles, one egg at a time.

In the final part of the episode, Dr. Chris visits the the Giant Ibis breeding center which is home to Cambodia's national bird. With a population of fewer than 200 individuals, these birds are at high risk of extinction. Dr. Chris works with the breeding center's team to aid in incubating the eggs and tending to the young birds in preparation for release into the wild.

As the episode concludes, Dr. Chris reflects about the vital role that conservationists play in protecting these endangered species in Vietnam. He encourages all of us to take small steps towards conservation and sustainability to prevent the extinction of these and other vital species. "Together," he says, "we can help make a difference."
