In Video Game High School season 1 episode 1, we are introduced to a world where video games have become the most popular sport in the world. The episode starts with a brief overview of the culture surrounding professional gaming and how it is now considered a legitimate career option. We are then introduced to our protagonist, Brian D. a high school student who loves playing video games but struggles in his other classes.
The episode kicks off with Brian playing a game of "Field of Fire" online. He is interrupted by his mother who tries to get him to focus on his studies. Despite her efforts, Brian spends most of his time playing video games and it's clear that he doesn't have much interest in anything else.
The next day, Brian gets a surprise when he receives an invitational letter in the mail to attend Video Game High School (VGHS) - a school that trains students to become professional gamers. Brian is thrilled at the opportunity and decides to attend the school, despite his mother's concerns.
Upon arriving at school, Brian is amazed by the sheer size of the campus. He makes his way to the orientation where he meets some of his fellow classmates, including Ki, Ted, and Jenny. Ki seems to be the most seasoned gamer of the group, while Ted and Jenny are both worried about their chances of succeeding in the cutthroat world of professional gaming.
The orientation is hosted by the school's principal, Mary Matrix. She explains the various programs at VGHS and emphasizes the importance of teamwork and dedication in the world of professional gaming. She also warns the students that their grades must be maintained in order to stay enrolled at VGHS.
The episode then takes us through a series of challenges that the students must face in order to make it into the school's elite varsity team. Brian struggles in the first challenge, but manages to make it through to the next round with Ki's help. The students are then tasked with playing a game of "FPS Deathmatch," where only the top two players will make it onto the varsity team. Brian and Ki both make it onto the team, but at the cost of Ted and Jenny's disappointment.
The episode concludes with Brian feeling elated at his success and feeling like he's found his place in the world. However, he soon realizes that being on the varsity team isn't going to be easy and that he'll need to work harder than ever before to succeed.
Overall, Video Game High School season 1 episode 1 is a fun and engaging start to the series. It sets up the world and characters nicely and introduces us to the core themes of the show - hard work, dedication, and the importance of teamwork. It's a great introduction to the world of VGHS and left me excited for what's to come.
