The Water Rats season 7 episode 8, titled "The Hungry Bear Blues," follows the team as they investigate a series of break-ins that have occurred in the area. The burglaries are targeting local Asian businesses, and there are fears that it may be the work of a racist gang. Meanwhile, Detective Senior Constable Rachel "Goldie" Goldstein is dealing with her own personal demons as she finds herself struggling to come to terms with the recent loss of her partner.

As the team start to investigate the break-ins, they come across a number of clues that suggest the burglars are a vicious gang that will stop at nothing to get what they want. They discover that the gang is headed by a dangerous criminal known as "The Bear," whose reputation for violence is well-known in the criminal underworld. The Water Rats must navigate their way through a maze of suspects and witnesses to try and catch the Bear and his gang before they strike again.

Meanwhile, Goldie's personal struggles continue to mount as she tries to come to terms with her loss. She finds solace in the form of a young musician, who she meets while investigating the burglaries. The two strike up a friendship, and Goldie is touched by the musician's unwavering optimism and joy for life. As the investigation heats up, Goldie finds herself drawn deeper into the musician's world, and she begins to see a way out of the darkness that has been consuming her.

As the Water Rats close in on the Bear, tensions rise, and danger looms. The team must band together and use all their years of experience to catch the criminals before it's too late. With the help of Goldie and the musician, they finally track down the Bear, but the capture doesn't go as planned. A high-stakes chase ensues, with the Water Rats fighting to keep innocent lives safe while taking down the gang.

In the end, justice is served, and the Water Rats can breathe a sigh of relief. Goldie, too, finds some peace, realizing that life goes on, and that there is still beauty and joy to be found in the world, even in the midst of tragedy. The episode ends with the team back at the station, reflecting on their work and the challenges they've overcome. They know that more challenges lie ahead, but they're ready to face them head-on – together, as a team.
