In the first season of Westworld, viewers were introduced to the immersive and hyper-realistic world of the eponymous theme park, where lifelike android "hosts" catered to every whim of guests seeking escape from the mundane. But all was not well in Westworld, as the hosts began to remember past lives and form their own sense of identity, leading to a violent rebellion against their creators. In the second season, the stakes are higher as the hosts seek both revenge and liberation from their human oppressors.

In the second episode, titled "Reunion," the show flashes back to an earlier time in the park's history, giving viewers a glimpse into the founding of Westworld and the players who helped bring it to life. The episode also introduces new characters, including James Delos (Peter Mullan), a powerful businessman who becomes a partner in the park, and a young William (Jimmi Simpson), who is eagerly learning the ropes in his new role as a stakeholder.

The timeline jumps back and forth between the present day and the early days of Westworld, as Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Teddy (James Marsden) continue their journey to find the "valley beyond." Along the way, they come across a group of Confederados, who are still loyal to their former leader, Major Craddock (Jonathan Tucker). Dolores manipulates Craddock into following her, promising him the weapons and resources he needs to exact his revenge.

Meanwhile, Maeve (Thandie Newton) is on her own mission to track down her "daughter," and learns that the park's techs have relocated the host to a remote sector of the park. Maeve enlists the help of Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) and new ally Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman), the creative director responsible for Westworld's elaborate narratives. Together, they launch a daring rescue mission that puts Maeve's newfound powers to the test.

"Reunion" also explores the history of the Man in Black (Ed Harris), whose full name is revealed to be William. In the flashback scenes, we see a younger William who has yet to fully embrace his dark side, and who is still trying to prove himself to his father-in-law, James Delos. As the timeline shifts to the present, we see the Man in Black traversing the park alone, on a new quest to unravel the deeper mysteries of Westworld.

As always, Westworld is a show that rewards careful attention to detail, with a puzzlebox plot that slowly reveals its true nature over time. From the rapid-fire dialogue to the stunning visuals and haunting score, "Reunion" is a gripping addition to the second season's ongoing saga. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the show or a newcomer just tuning in, this episode promises to offer plenty of thrills, chills, and surprises along the way.
