Dominic Monaghan is back with another wild adventure in Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan season 2 episode 10 named "Slow Loris." In this episode, the actor and wildlife enthusiast explores Southeast Asia in search of one of the world's most adorable and endangered creatures, the slow loris.
Starting off in Thailand, Dominic visits the Loris Bridge, a rehabilitation center that works towards the conservation of slow lorises. Here, the actor learns about the unique features of the slow loris that make it one of the most mesmerizing creatures on the planet. He also gets the chance to interact with some of the slow lorises and even feeds them by hand. As he gazes into their big, soulful eyes, Dominic reflects on the importance of protecting these creatures and attempts to figure out why they are in danger.
Next, Dominic travels to Vietnam, where he meets with local researchers working to protect the slow loris in the wild. One such researcher is Van Ngoc Thinh, who is on a mission to survey the population of slow lorises in the Tam Dao National Park. Dominic joins him on a trek through the forest and learns how technology is being used to identify nocturnal creatures like the slow loris. Together, they set up camera traps in the hopes of capturing footage of the elusive creatures.
As Dominic continues to explore Southeast Asia, he begins to discover the harsh reality of the illegal wildlife trade and its impact on the slow loris. In Vietnam, he visits the Lam Dong Center for Forest Fire Prevention and Control, where he meets with a team of rangers tasked with confiscating illegally captured animals. Amongst the animals rescued, many of which were destined for the pet trade, was a slow loris with its teeth removed to make it more docile. The sight of the sedated slow loris fills Dominic with anger and sadness as he comes face to face with the brutal reality of the slow loris trade.
Finally, Dominic meets with conservationist Christina Ward, who is working to protect the slow loris through education and the creation of wildlife corridors. She explains how the loss of habitat is one of the biggest threats to the slow loris and how creating corridors that connect different patches of forest can mitigate this threat. As Dominic looks out onto the beautiful landscape, he marvels at the incredible work being done to protect these precious creatures and is filled with hope for their future.
Throughout "Slow Loris," Dominic Monaghan shows us the incredible beauty and charm of the slow loris while highlighting the danger it faces due to habitat loss and the illegal pet trade. Through his journey in Southeast Asia and interactions with local researchers and conservationists, Dominic sheds light on the important work being done to protect these creatures and invites us all to do our part in ensuring their survival.
