- 3 Seasons
This drama series revolves around a rancher who fights for control of the land on which he runs his huge cattle business. The land sparks sometimes violent battles between the rancher and other people who want the land for their own purposes. John Dutton is the head of a family who own the largest ranch in the United States. The land has been under the control of the family for a long time, but keeping it under control has never been easy. The Native Americans from whom the land was originally taken aren't happy about the Dutton family business. The neighboring National Park doesn't like the environmental damage the business inflicts, and developers want to get their own hands on the valuable land. In the meantime, the Dutton family slugs it out with all the potential threats. They've gotten rich by exploiting a huge swath of land, and they need to keep their family's cash cow alive. The series debuted on the Paramount Network in 2018, and in 2020, it was renewed for a fourth season. The series has been successful for the relatively low-profile network, but it has received mixed reviews from critics. Reviewers have been less than impressed with melodramatic, soap-opera-like plot lines of the series. Assessments of the performances of the series' cast have been mostly favorable, however. Viewers have been generally more forgiving of the series' shortcomings, making it one of the highest-rated series on basic cable TV.
