In the movie House of 1000 Corpses, four young adults are traveling through rural America in search of weird attractions and roadside thrill rides with the goal of writing a book about offbeat roadside attractions. While researching their book, they stumble upon Captain Spaulding's (Sid Haig) Museum of Monsters and Madmen, a gas station and museum that serves as a tourist trap for weird and grotesque objects. Captain Spaulding directs them to the small town of Ruggsville, where they hear about the local legend of Dr. Satan, a mad scientist that was hanged in the town years ago. Fascinated by the story, the group decides to investigate the legend and travels to a nearby farmhouse - the home of the sadistic Firefly family, where they soon become trapped and are victimized by a series of unimaginable events.

The Firefly family is led by Mother Firefly (Karen Black), a demented matriarch that encourages her family's sadistic behavior toward their captives. The family includes her sons Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie), who are both deeply disturbed and enjoy torturing their victims. They are joined by the mysterious Dr. Satan, a twisted scientist who is hell-bent on creating a new breed of human being through his grotesque experiments.

As the night progresses, the four victims are subjected to unspeakable horrors at the hands of the Firefly family. They are subjected to acts of torture, mutilation, and psychological torment that are difficult to watch. The group struggles to escape the grasp of the family and their twisted counterparts. Their journey takes them through a maze of horror and nightmares as they try to survive the night.
