Ep 2. On the Fence

In Boy Meets World season 1 episode 2, titled "On The Fence," we continue to follow the life of Cory Matthews as he navigates his new life as a middle schooler. The episode begins with Cory and his best friend, Shawn, playing basketball in the Matthews' backyard. Cory is excited to finally get a chance to shoot the ball over the fence that separates his yard from that of his next-door neighbor's, without the ball being confiscated by angry Mr. Feeny, his beloved but strict neighbor.

Meanwhile, Cory's parents, Alan and Amy, are dealing with the fact that their eldest child, Eric, is entering his teenage years. In the meantime, Cory continues to fixate on the fence, and Shawn encourages him to jump over it and retrieve the ball. However, Cory is hesitant and unsure if he can do it.

After school, Cory and Shawn continue to play basketball, and when the ball is once again thrown over the fence, Cory decides to finally jump over and retrieve it. However, things don't quite go as planned, and he ends up getting stuck on top of the fence.

As night falls, Cory remains on the fence, and his parents grow concerned when he doesn't come inside. They enlist the help of Mr. Feeny, who is initially reluctant to help but agrees to check on Cory when he hears that he is in trouble. Mr. Feeny manages to help Cory climb down from the fence, and he is welcomed home by his relieved parents.

The episode closes with Eric confiding in his parents about his troubles at school and a newfound desire to be cool. Amy and Alan reassure Eric that he is loved regardless of whether he is "cool," and they both realize that they need to make more of an effort to connect with their son as he enters this new stage of his life.
