Gangs of Wasseypur is a two-part Indian crime thriller directed by Anurag Kashyap, released in 2012. The story revolves around the coal mafia, and the inter-generational feud between two warring families in the town of Wasseypur, situated in the state of Bihar, India. The movie mainly shows the rivalry between the Qureshi and Khan families and their struggle for power and control in the town.

The movie opens with the character of Sardar Khan, played by Manoj Bajpayee, who is a key player in the family feud. Sardar Khan is a hot-blooded and ambitious man who wants to take revenge on the local gangster, Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia), who had murdered his father. Sardar plans to do this by becoming a don himself and taking control of the coal mines in the town, which are the main source of income for the local people.

Sardar is also a womanizer, and he is shown to have multiple affairs over the course of his life. One of his affairs is with his second wife, Nagma Khatoon (Richa Chadda), whom he marries after abandoning his first wife. Nagma Khatoon, a bold and powerful woman, is the mother of his three sons - Danish, Faizal, and Perpendicular. The movie also shows the coming of age of Faizal Khan, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who initially seems to lack his father's leadership qualities. However, after Sardar's death, Faizal takes charge of the family business and becomes a formidable leader.

Apart from the main characters, the movie also introduces a host of minor characters, each with their own distinct personality and backstory. There is Ramadhir Singh, the main antagonist, who is a cunning and ruthless man who will stop at nothing to maintain his position of power. Then there is Nasir Ahmed, a loyal friend of Sardar Khan, who helps him in his fight against Ramadhir Singh.

The movie is divided into two parts, and each part has its own plot and themes. Part 1 mainly deals with Sardar Khan's rise to power, his affair with Nagma Khatoon, his plans for revenge against Ramadhir Singh, and the power struggle between the two families. Part 2, on the other hand, focuses on Faizal Khan's journey as a gangster, his attempt to avenge his father's death, and the continuous battle for control of the coal mines.

Gangs of Wasseypur is a violent and gritty movie that does not shy away from portraying the harsh reality of life in Bihar. The movie is also notable for its use of music, which ranges from traditional Bhojpuri folk songs to contemporary Hindi rap. The music plays an important role in setting the tone of the movie and enhancing the emotional impact of certain scenes.

Overall, Gangs of Wasseypur is a gripping and intense movie that showcases the darker side of human nature. The movie is not for the faint-hearted and contains graphic violence and strong language. However, the movie is also a commentary on the social and economic issues in Bihar and the struggles of the common man in such an environment. The movie was a critical and commercial success and is now considered a cult classic in Indian cinema.
