Ep 16. Mr. Selfridge, Season 3, Episode 1

Series 3 of Mr. Selfridge kicks off with Episode 1, as the beautiful and luxurious Selfridge's department store enters a new era. With Harry Selfridge no longer at the helm, and World War I barely in the rearview mirror, there are many changes afoot. Firstly, we are introduced to a new character, Lady Mae Loxley, who instantly causes a stir among the store's elite clientele as she returns to London from Paris. With her extravagant wardrobe and charm, Lady Mae is sure to shake things up at Selfridge's.

Meanwhile, Henri Leclair, the new head of fashion, is keen to make his mark. He starts by creating new window displays and leaving the department store's floor staff in awe. In fact, he makes an immediate impression on Miss Mardle, whose relationship with Mr Grove has come to a head after his wife's death. With Mr Grove leaving Selfridge's, Miss Mardle finds herself alone and vulnerable, and Henri's attention is something she finds hard to resist.

Elsewhere in the store, Kitty Hawkins is running a new beauty department, though things are not going well. Her boss, Mr Thackeray, is saddled with a terrible injury that impairs his work, and Kitty sees this as an opportunity to expand her own profile within the company. But her brash and ambitious manner threatens to ruin things for the both of them, and a confrontation with Harry's former right-hand man, Mr Crabb, does little to help matters.

As the episode progresses, we see signs of Harry Selfridge's departure from the store. His family is now scattered, with his wife and children living in America, and his frantic efforts to win them back home are failing miserably. Even his old friend and confidante Miss Mardle, now with Henri, seems to have little time for him. But then Harry spies a vision of his wife, Rose, and his hopes are rekindled. Is there a chance he can bring her back to London and restore his family to its former glory?

This is just the beginning of Mr Selfridge's Season 3, with many more twists and turns to come - including a visitor to the store who threatens to bring more trouble than anybody could have imagined.
