Watch The Fabulous Beekman Boys

The Fabulous Beekman Boys reality show follows two New York City executives who impulsively buy the Beekman mansion and farm in upstate New York. The show portrays the couple's struggle to make the farm into a profitable venture and live there full-time. The farm is home to chickens, turkeys, pigs and Polka Spot, an attention-loving llama. Eighty goats soon move in, along with their sentimental owner, "Farmer John" Hall, who cries when he talks about his goats.

Josh Kilmer-Purcell, an advertising executive and former nightclub female impersonator, has written four books. Dr. Brent Ridge is a physician who was vice-president of healthy living for Martha Stewart. Brent is a true perfectionist: "It takes no more time to line up the tractors in a straight row".Is there a way to freshen the air in the barn?"

To get the farm going, Josh and Brent decide on a "year of sacrifice." Brent will run the farm, and Josh, the breadwinner, will work at his New York advertising agency and make the 3-hour trip to the farm every weekend. Josh and Brent are no cheerful Ozzie and Harriet. They bicker. Each think he's making the bigger sacrifice. Brent grumbles that he is doing all the farm chores. Josh complains that Brent's to-do lists leave him no time to relax after his high-pressured work week.

There is plenty of humor in The Fabulous Beekman Boys. The boys are constantly running after goats and pigs. Brent dresses a reluctant Josh in a Colonial costume at the Harvest Festival. Brent decides to start a business which will sell goat milk soap and cheese; he suddenly panics when he realizes that he has an order for 14,000 bars of soap and has to wrap all of them.

The Boys are openly gay, but gender issues are not the point of the show. The Fabulous Beekman Boys is about a citified couple's struggles to run a farm and still maintain their 10-year relationship. Some have compared the show to the old TV comedy Green Acres, but this is no silly sitcom. The Beekman Boys are for real.
