Marcus (Kevin Costner) is a successful physician who also has a passion for bicycle racing. He dedicates his life to his work in a high-tech sports gym because he's somewhat estranged from his family. Hoping to reconnect with them, he pays them a visit one night, and it becomes clear why he's angry at his mother. Apparently he doesn't approve of the way she carried on during his father's terminal illness. David (David Marshall Grant) is Marcus's younger brother and tries to smooth things over. More tension arrives when we see how undisciplined David is. He's lazy and nowhere near as successful as Marcus, and when the older brother demands that his sibling come to his gym for testing, we learn how their father died. A rare genetic condition caused his premature death, and Marcus fears that David has the same condition. Fortunately, the tests come back negative, but to prove to his brother that he's not a bum, he agrees to ride with him in a grueling bicycle race. The setting then shifts to Colorado, where the race takes place. Sarah (Rae Dawn Chong) comes with them -- she's Marcus's girlfriend. They also pick up Becky (Alexandra Paul) along the way, and together their attention turns to the race. Nothing will come easy, however, and a ruthless competitor named Muzzin (Luca Bercovici) resorts to treachery in his attempt to win. He's also Sarah's ex-boyfriend, and he doesn't think much of her new choice in beaus. The biggest dilemma, though, turns out to be the mysterious illness, as it turns out that the brothers aren't as free from its grasp as they thought. The race occurs in three stages that each mount new challenges, and state-of-the-art cinematography captures every sequence.
