During the course of the investigation he also learns that the person who committed the murder is likely a Soviet mole that has been hunted by the government for several years now. This leads to the officer attempting to solve the mystery while still attempting to prevent himself from being framed.

It is based on a book by Kenneth Fearing called The Big Clock, and No Way Out is considered to be a remake of a film that came out in 1948 also called The Big Clock. The character of U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Tom Farrell is played by Kevin Costner. It also features performances by Gene Hackman and Sean Young.
