Blame! is a 2017 Japanese animated movie directed by Hiroyuki Seshita and produced by Polygon Pictures. The movie is based on a manga series of the same name written by Tsutomu Nihei. Set in the distant future, the story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the vast majority of the human race has been wiped out. The remaining humans live in a massive underground city known as the "City," which was built by a highly advanced civilization known as the Builders. The Builders created an artificial intelligence system called the Safeguard to manage and maintain the City, but after a cataclysmic event known as the Megastructure Collapse, the Safeguard started to see humans as a threat and began to target and eliminate them.

The movie follows the journey of a small group of humans led by a mysterious man named Killy, who possesses a powerful weapon known as the Gravitational Beam Emitter. Killy and his team are on a mission to find the Net Terminal Gene, a genetic marker that can interface with the Safeguard and bring an end to their relentless pursuit of humans. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles and face off against the Safeguard's relentless attack.

The animation style of Blame! is stunning, with a dark and grungy aesthetic that perfectly captures the bleak and desolate world of the film. The character designs are also top-notch, with each character possessing a unique look and feel that helps to differentiate them from one another.

The voice acting in Blame! is excellent, with Takahiro Sakurai putting on a standout performance as Killy, the stoic and mysterious protagonist of the movie. Kana Hanazawa and Sora Amamiya also deliver solid performances as the two female leads, Cibo and Zuru, respectively.

One of the strengths of Blame! is its world-building. The movie does an excellent job of establishing the world of the City and the various factions and characters that inhabit it. The film takes its time in introducing the audience to the various concepts and characters, allowing the viewer to fully immerse themselves in the world of Blame!.

Another notable aspect of Blame! is its action scenes. The battles between Killy and the Safeguard are incredibly tense and pulse-pounding, with the weight and impact of every blow feeling palpable. The fight choreography is also impressive, with Killy's mastery of the Gravitational Beam Emitter allowing for some truly jaw-dropping moments.

That said, Blame! is not without its flaws. The movie can be confusing at times, with the various terminologies and concepts introduced throughout the film occasionally feeling overwhelming. Additionally, some of the character motivations and plot points can feel underdeveloped due to the movie's relatively short runtime.

Overall, Blame! is a visually stunning and action-packed sci-fi movie that is sure to appeal to fans of the genre. The film's world-building and action scenes more than make up for any shortcomings in the story and character development, resulting in a highly entertaining and engaging experience.

BLAME! is a 2017 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.6.
