Complete Unknown is a 2016 drama directed by Joshua Marston, starring Michael Shannon, Rachel Weisz, and Hansel Tan. The movie follows the story of Alice Manning, a woman who has lived a multitude of lives and identities over the past fifteen years. Tom, played by Michael Shannon, is celebrating his birthday with his wife and friends, feeling somewhat unfulfilled in his job and in life. Suddenly, Alice, Tom's former lover, appears at the party unannounced. Alice has completely transformed herself, leaving her old life behind in search of new experiences and identities.

Tom and Alice reconnect, reminiscing about their past relationship and Alice's mysterious disappearance from his life. They exchange updates about their current lives, and Alice reveals that she has adopted a new identity, Jenny, a scientist who studies monarch butterflies.

Tom invites Alice to join him in his career, as he sculpts artificial body parts. She reluctantly agrees, but as the two spend more time together, Alice's true intentions and identity become increasingly murky to Tom.

Throughout the movie, Alice tells Tom and others around her about the numerous identities she has taken on over the years. She's been an analyst for the government, a doctor, a magician's assistant, and even a cosmetologist. Alice cannot seem to settle on one identity or one place to call home.

As Tom becomes more and more frustrated with Alice's elusive nature, he begins to feel more and more distant from his own life. He starts to see Alice as a representation of the things he gave up for his current life, and he wonders what his life could have been like if he too had taken a similar path.

Complete Unknown is a movie that explores the ideas of identity and destiny. It is a thought-provoking drama that takes the viewer through Alice's complicated and mysterious life. Rachel Weisz's performance as Alice is captivating and enthralling, as she portrays a woman who has lost herself in the pursuit of finding who she wants to be.

Michael Shannon's performance as Tom is equally impressive. Shannon's portrayal of a man struggling with his own identity is nothing short of amazing. As the viewer watches the two characters navigate their way through their own identities and avoid revealing their true selves to one another, the line between reality and perception begins to blur.

Throughout the movie, the viewer is left questioning Alice's true intentions and whether she is really happy with her choices. Is she searching for something she will never find, or is she exactly where she wants to be?

The movie's ending leaves its audience with more questions than answers, adding to the overall allure and mystery of Alice's character. Though the movie is slow-paced, it is well worth watching for the performances and the thought-provoking storyline.
