Kate Mathieson, played by Halle Berry, is considered as a shark expert by all who know her, in fact if anyone wanted to know about sharks, chances are that Kate would be the person to go to. Her boyfriend Jeff, played by Olivier Martinez, is a film producer and is attempting to do a documentary on Kate and her experiences around sharks. As they get ready for a dive with the sharks, Jeff is filming and Kate is kidding around. Her title of the shark whisperer does not prepare them for the shark attack that is about to come. The sight of blood from the death of their crew mate allows a memory of the attack to stay with Kate for a long time to come. Kate is now very apprehensive about being around sharks and has decided to avoid them altogether. This move is causing a great deal of financial stress in her business. Things are so bad that the bank is making plans to take Kate's boat from her because of her inability to pay for it. Since the incident, Kate and her boyfriend have separated and he is trying to contact her about a financial opportunity that would help her deal with her problems. It involves taking a millionaire and his son to swim with the sharks. Kate immediately rejects the idea, especially since she is still being haunted by the fact that she lost her friend to a shark. There is a large amount of money being offered and Kate finally agrees that she will take the job, however the possibility of swimming outside the cage will have to be determined later. There are may concerns and fears that Kate must overcome before getting back into the water, but eventually takes the thrill seeker to the deadliest shark feeding grounds in the area. John Stockwell directs this thriller, with supporting roles by Ralph Brown as Brady and Mark Elderkin as Tommy.
