Death at Love House is a suspenseful mystery film released in 1976, directed by EW Swackhamer, and starring Robert Wagner, Kate Jackson, and Sylvia Sidney. The story revolves around macabre and horrifying events that unfold at a Gothic mansion while a young couple researches the life of a deceased Hollywood actress. The movie starts as a young couple, writer Stephanie Beck (Kate Jackson) and her husband, Paul (Paul Hecht), who is an art photographer, take a trip to the secluded mansion of a deceased Hollywood movie star Lorna Love (Marianna Hill). They have been commissioned by a publisher to write a book on the life of Lorna Love, who died years ago under mysterious circumstances at her mansion.

Upon arrival, they notice that strange incidents are taking place in the mansion. The housekeeper, Elsa (Sylvia Sidney), is cold and uncooperative, and the atmosphere inside the house is dark, foreboding, and haunting. However, Stephanie is determined to continue her research, hoping to uncover the secrets of Lorna’s life and the reasons behind her demise.

As they start their research, they meet several colorful and eccentric characters who were a part of Lorna’s life, including another Hollywood star, Sheila Sellinger (Joan Blondell), who arguably overshadowed Lorna’s career. As they dig deeper into Lorna’s life, they learn unnerving things about Lorna and her relationships, raising suspicion about the motives of the people involved in her life.

During their stay at the mansion, Stephanie experiences a series of terrifying events, including being locked in Lorna’s dressing room and almost being pushed off the balcony. Ambiguous ethereal figures start to appear in the mansion and in photographs that Paul takes. With each passing day, they find themselves surrounded by evil forces that seem to be pushing them closer to their mortality.

The plot turns eerie when they discover that the mansion was built over the remains of an old monastery. The dark history revealed by the owners of the neighboring farmstead suggests an age-old Satanic ritual that could be predicting the couple's downfall. The farm owners shockingly assert that Satan emerges from the Devil's Pit every hundred years to claim human lives, and they claim that the hundredth year is not far away.

With the couple's life at serious risk, they resolve to get to the bottom of things before they become victims to a disheartening fate.

Overall, Death at Love House is an intense, suspenseful mystery thriller that keeps its viewers on the edge of their seats. The movie uses its Gothic set elements, unsettling tension, and spooky ambiance to its full advantage, making it an exciting and enjoyable watch. If you are a fan of horror and suspense, Death at Love House is a movie that must not be missed.
