In High Crimes, Ashley Judd portrays an attorney named Claire Kubik, who has a husband named Tom. In the movie, the United State FBI captured Tom in Marin County, California. Upon being captured, the Federal Bureau of Investigation convicted Tom of 9 murders involving 9 peasants who lived in El Salvador in 1988. After finding out her husband was captured, Mrs. Kubik finds her husband had not been truthful about his identity. Her husband’s name wasn’t really Tom Kubik; his real name was Ronald Chapman. She found he worked for the United States Marin Corps as a covert military operative and had been on the run for 14 years. During the investigation, Tom admitted he was at the scene of the crime, but wasn’t involved in any way. He believed he had been scapegoated to achieve disguising the identity of the real perpetrator, Major James Hernandez. Terence Embry gets assigned to defend Tom. However Claire notices he lacks experience, so she decides to defend her husband as well.
