My Favorite Martian

"The martian has landed. There goes the neighborhood."

My Favorite Martian is a comedy starring Christopher Lloyd in the title role of an alien who becomes stuck on Earth. The character of Tim O'Hara is a reporter for the local news station. As Tim is returning home one evening he witnesses a strange object fall from the sky and crash to Earth. He discovers it is a miniature spaceship and decides to take it home with him. He is unaware of the spaceship's owner who is hiding and watching everything Tim does. The martian follows Tim home where he attempts to retrieve his now shrunken spaceship. Through a series of misunderstandings and a shared curiosity about space, Tim and the martian become friends. Tim begins introducing his martian friend to other people as his Uncle Martin. With the exception of a pair of antenna which the martian can retract at will, he looks like an ordinary human being. He does possess a spacesuit which is somewhat of a sentient being itself. The suit, known as Zoot, has a mind of its own. It often uses Tim's washing machine as its own personal Jacuzzi. When the martian finally looks at his spacecraft, he discovers the controls are damaged so the craft cannot transport him back home. Tim has an ulterior motive for keeping “Uncle Martin” at his home. As a news reporter he wants to write a story that will make him credible and give him notoriety in the community. Tim has an assistant who is a somewhat introverted young woman who also has a huge crush on Tim. Tim also has an associate named Brace who wants to scoop him on his story of the century. She sneaks into his house to find out what he is working on. She also steals the videos he has made of the martian, which they need to retrieve before his true identity is discovered.
