- 2 hr 21 min
Sunshine State is a film of various vignettes that all occur around an area of Florida, broken up by a group of golfers that give commentary on the comings and goings of each segment. It has a run-time of 141 minutes. As Delrona Beach, a mostly-White Floridian town, prepares for its yearly festival, a parade float catches fire. A black child named Terrell is declared guilty and forced to perform community service for a local community theater. Terrell is an orphan in the care of his older relative Eunice and lives in the mostly-Black neighborhood of Lincoln Beach. Eunice is visited by her daughter Desiree, a beauty queen and actress who had to leave town after a pregnancy scandal sent her to Georgia. Desiree returned in order to make amends and to introduce Eunice to her new husband. Back at Delrona Beach, Marly runs the motel/cafe of her parents. With her personal aspirations of becoming a marine biologist, she feels trapped by the arrangement and considers selling the hotel off. In addition to carrying the family business, she also has to carry her slacker husband, Steve. However, Marly is also involved with a boyfriend-on-the-side, Scotty, and a landscaper, Jack.
