The Great White Hope is a 1970 drama. The movie stars James Earl Jones and Jane Alexander who were nominated for the Best Actor and Best Actress Academy Award. The story is set between 1910 and 1915. The hero of the movie is Jack Jefferson (Jones). Jefferson is model on the real-life African American boxer Jack Johnson. Jefferson can’t be defeated in the boxing ring and soon the press calls for a great white hope who will be able to defeat Jefferson. Jefferson riles up racist attitudes all the more by dating a beautiful white woman named Eleanor Bachman (Alexander).
