Considered as the best in his field, Lt. Danny Roman (Samuel Jackson) is having the time of his life. Coming off from a successful negotiating gig where he manages to disarm a wielding gunman holding his daughter hostage, Roman believes that he can do no wrong. A phone call from his partner has Danny Roman stepping into another world where he would end up having to prove his innocence. As he approaches his friend and partner, Danny realizes that a murder has taken place and he is being blamed for it. When Roman is called into Internal Affairs to answer charges, he realizes that there is no way out and decides to grab hostages to help him find the truth. This action thriller, puts an honest cop in a position which forces him to make some very tough decisions, some that could cause his associates in the Chicago police department to turn against him. Recently married to his new wife, Roman is also being pressured by Karen to give himself up and change his present direction. Roman realizes that the embezzlement charges hanging over his head could only mean that there had to be some dirty cops and rather than put himself at risk he demanded a negotiator from another precinct. As the evening progresses Roman begins to uncover clues that ended up causing the death of Inspector Terence Niebaum.(J.T. Walsh) As an outsider, Chris Sabian would not be involved in the accusations that were flying and as a hostage negotiator he had a track record of being very patient. The line that Roman must cross concerning the disability fund is one that he never thought he would have to, however his reputation and future is at stake and he is determined to come out on top. Based on a true story, this drama is directed by F. Gary Gray and has earned a few awards like the image award for Samuel Jackson for Outstanding Lead Actor in a motion picture. Look for familiar faces like David Morse, John Spencer and Paul Giamatti.
