The Notorious Landlady is an American film that was released in 1962. It is considered to be in the genre of comedy/mystery. Upon an American diplomat's (William Gridley) arrival to London, he rents a portion of Carly Hardwicke's house. In the process, he begins to develop feelings for her. Unknown to Gridley, many people speculate that she committed a crime against her British husband. Gridley's boss becomes aware of this and persuades Gridley to spy on Carly without her knowing she is being watched.

When an unexpected guest arrives for Carly, drama ensues. The plot becomes very dramatic from this point and Carly struggles with the consequences of her actions.
