Threesome is a romantic drama and ironic comedy film that was written and directed by Andrew Fleming. The story revolves around his narrated, autobiographical tale that incorporates social commentary. The film covers the writer-director's experiences with two roommates while attending college. The TriStar Pictures film was produced by Brad Krevoy and features Josh Charles, Lara Flynn Boyle and Stephen Baldwin. The story begins as an administrative mistake is made regarding college housing. Two male students, the introverted and intellectual Eddy (played by Josh Charles) and jock star Stuart (played by Stephen Baldwin) wind up with a female roommate. It seems that the school believed that given her androgynous name, Alex (played by Lara Flynn Boyle) was a male. Therefore, the three students must deal with living together until the school has found a place in the female residence hall in which to move Alex. As a result of their close proximity, Alex becomes enamored with Eddy and unsuccessfully tries to seduce him. Stuart finds himself falling for Alex. Eddy is gay and ultimately falls for Stuart. The three become fast friends in any case, putting up a barrier for any person trying to seduce any one of them. The three agree to have a go at having a threesome. This seems to destroy their friendships, raising the chance that Alex could have become pregnant. Alex, Eddy and Stuart drift apart after having their threesome. When the semester ends, three weeks later Alex relocates to an apartment. The following year, Eddy moves into a single dorm without roommates. The three friends continue to become more distanced. However, Eddy eventually manages to find a boyfriend. Stuart becomes involved in a happy and monogamous relationship with a woman, while Alex remains alone. They only see each other occasionally, continuing to drift apart, for afternoon lunches. They do not seem to regret what has transpired between them. However, it is clear that they will never be quite the same.
