Ep 6. Freakin' Enamored

Jack Griffin, played by Glenn Howerton, the former Harvard philosophy professor turned high school Advanced Placement (A.P.) Biology teacher, rejects a student's request to stage a student protest. Meanwhile, Principal Ralph Durbin, played by Patton Oswalt, takes pity on a caged goose and takes it in, giving it free rein of the school. Jack goes to Durbin to ask him to do something about the goose, who is causing chaos and disrupting classes.

In the midst of all this, Jack becomes infatuated with Lynette, played by guest star Aparna Brielle, a in a relationship with a teacher. Jack obsesses over the affair, causing him to be blind to the real problems at hand, including helping his students prepare for the annual standardized test.

When Principal Durbin discovers that a human bones exhibit is no longer available, he agrees to allow Jack to create an exhibit using student volunteers. Jack sees this as a perfect opportunity to spend more time with Lynette, whom he has been secretly stalking online and in person. The exhibit becomes more about impressing Lynette than teaching the students about biology.

Throughout the episode, Jack tries to make Lynette jealous by pretending to be interested in other women. He recruits Mary, played by guest star Mary Sohn, as his fake girlfriend to make Lynette believe that he has moved on. Jack's plan backfires when Mary starts to take their fake relationship seriously.

Meanwhile, the animal-loving Principal Durbin worries about the well-being of the school's goose, which he has taken to caring for. After numerous mishaps in the classroom, the wild goose is eventually released back into the wild where it belongs.

In the end, Jack realizes his feelings for Lynette are misguided and apologizes to Mary for leading her on. He also refocuses on his students and their education, ultimately realizing that they are the most important part of his job. With the help of his class, Jack successfully creates a biology exhibit that impresses both Principal Durbin and the students.
