Jack is caught off guard when his estranged mother shows up unannounced. With nowhere else to go, she stays with Jack, forcing him to confront unresolved issues from his past. Meanwhile, the students plan a party in Jack's honor, but he refuses to attend, leading them to devise a plan to get him there. Mary, Stef and Michelle work to give Jack the one party he never had as a teenager, while the students scramble to execute their own plan. In the end, Jack is forced to confront not only his past but also his own limitations as a teacher and a man.
