Phoenix Wright, ace attorney is back with another intriguing episode titled Reunion and Turnabout - 1st Trial of season 1. This episode starts with Phoenix and Maya meeting an old friend from grade school, Larry Butz, who is now a struggling artist. Later, Phoenix gets a call from Larry, telling him that his art has been stolen and he needs help to get it back.
As Phoenix and Maya get to the scene, they see Larry's art, "The Thinker", at an art gallery. They also see Larry's former girlfriend, Wendy Oldbag, who works at the gallery, and she tells them that Larry had sold the painting to the gallery. However, Larry claims that he never sold the painting and that he only let Wendy borrow it. Phoenix decides to investigate and take on the case as Larry's attorney.
During the first trial, Phoenix argues that the painting was stolen and that it was not sold to the gallery. However, the prosecution brings out a witness who claims that Larry had sold the painting to him. The witness also claims that Larry had signed a contract, which he had, that legally stated that he sold the painting.
Phoenix finds a hole in the witness' testimony and points it out, but the judge rules in favor of the prosecution and the trial goes into recess. Phoenix decides to investigate further and with Maya's help, they visit the witness, a collector by the name of Kane Bullard. They discover that Bullard was lying about having seen and purchased "The Thinker" as it was simply a fake.
With this revelation, the trial continues with Phoenix questioning Bullard and exposing his lies. However, Bullard admits that he didn't know the painting was a fake, but adds that he had already resold it to another collector, who is now out of the country.
To make things worse, Wendy testifies that she saw Larry selling "The Thinker" to Bullard at the gallery. She also adds that she saw Larry sign the contract. Phoenix starts to give up hope, but Maya tells him that it's not over yet.
The trial resumes and Maya takes the stand, claiming that she saw Wendy take a picture of "The Thinker" using her cell phone. Maya argues that the picture would prove whether or not Larry had signed the contract, as it should have been in Larry's handwriting.
Phoenix requests for the picture and Wendy reluctantly hands it over. On examining the picture, Phoenix confirms that the signature on the contract was forged. He uses this evidence to prove that Wendy had lied and that the painting was indeed stolen.
In the end, Larry is acquitted of all charges, and "The Thinker" is returned to its rightful owner, much to the delight of Larry. The episode ends with Phoenix and Maya saying goodbye to Larry and leaving the art gallery, ready for their next case.
With its twists and turns and dramatic courtroom scenes, this episode is a must-watch for fans of the Ace Attorney series. Reunion and Turnabout - 1st Trial is a perfect showcase of the franchise's trademark mix of puzzle-solving, investigation, and courtroom suspense.
