Sonic the Hedgehog and his sidekick Tails are up against Dr. Robotnik once again in this episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. However, this time they're faced with a new obstacle: a robot by the name of Grounder, who has been designed by Dr. Robotnik to be extremely intelligent.
Dr. Robotnik is convinced that Grounder is the perfect tool for defeating Sonic, and so he sends him off with Scratch to capture the speedy hedgehog. However, when Grounder is taken aback by how fast Sonic is, he realizes that his intellect might not be enough to take down the hero.
Determined to outsmart Sonic, Grounder plans to construct a machine that will make him just as fast as his adversary. With the help of Dr. Robotnik's schematics, Grounder sets to work, but he soon realizes that he's not quite the genius he thought he was.
Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails are hot on Grounder's trail. They've got a plan to stop Dr. Robotnik, and they're hoping to use Grounder to get to him. When they catch up to the robot, they're surprised to find him struggling with his invention.
Sonic and Tails are quick to offer their help, since they know that Grounder's machine could be just what they need to defeat Dr. Robotnik once and for all. Together, the three of them work to perfect the design, but they soon discover that they're going to need a few more materials if they want to make the machine work.
With Grounder's help, Sonic and Tails set out to find the materials they need. They search high and low, encountering a number of obstacles along the way. Eventually, they're able to find everything they need, and they bring it back to Grounder so that he can finish the machine.
When Grounder finally perfects the machine, Sonic and Tails put it to the test. At first, everything seems to be going well, and they're thrilled with how fast they're able to move. However, things start to go wrong when Dr. Robotnik shows up with a surprise of his own.
