In American Diner Revival season 2 episode 2, titled "Degreasing the Greeks," host Ty Pennington and Chef Amanda Freitag travel to a Greek diner in New Jersey that is in desperate need of a revival. The diner, owned by two brothers, is struggling due to outdated decor, a lack of customers, and a menu that needs some serious updating.
Upon arriving at the diner, Ty and Amanda get to work assessing the state of the restaurant. They quickly realize that the decor is a mishmash of styles, with Greek flags and memorabilia mixing in with neon signs and outdated wallpaper. The menu is also a point of concern, with items like canned string beans and pre-packaged chicken fingers not exactly enticing diners.
Ty and Amanda set out to give the diner a much-needed facelift. First, they turn to the decor, removing the clutter and giving the space a fresh coat of paint. They also bring in some new furniture and touches of Greek decor to give the space a cohesive and inviting feel.
Next, they focus on the menu. Amanda helps the brothers revamp their offerings with fresh, homemade dishes that celebrate their Greek heritage. They also bring in a local coffee roaster to help the diner step up their coffee game, which had previously been lacking.
Throughout the episode, Ty and Amanda also work to bring in new customers and spread the word about the newly-revived diner. They hold a big reopening event to showcase the changes they've made and get the community excited about the restaurant once again.
By the end of the episode, the Greek diner has been transformed into a cozy, welcoming space with delicious food that's drawing in new customers. The brothers are thrilled with the changes, and Ty and Amanda are proud of the work they've done to help revitalize the diner.
