Ep 5. Auditions #5

Auditions continue in American Idol season 12 episode 5 as judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson travel to various cities searching for the next big superstar. In this episode, the judges visit Oklahoma City and hear from a diverse group of hopefuls ranging from country singers to Broadway performers.

First up is 23-year-old Tenna Torres, who previously auditioned for American Idol season 11 but did not make it past Hollywood Week. She hopes to make a lasting impression this time around with her emotional rendition of "Lost" by Faith Hill. Next is 16-year-old Zoanette Johnson, who has an energetic and unique personality that instantly captivates the judges. Meanwhile, Nate Tao, a 24-year-old music teacher from Virginia, gives a passionate performance of Stevie Wonder's "For Once in My Life" and receives a unanimous vote from the judges.

Several other contestants including Summer Cunningham, Halie Hilburn, and Kayden Stephenson also showcase their unique talents and personal stories. Summer, a 19-year-old waitress, stuns the judges with her version of "Lean on Me," while Halie, a 27-year-old mom, performs her original song "Leaving Home" which leaves the judges emotional. The youngest contestant of the day, 16-year-old Kayden, who has survived a rare form of cancer, delivers a touching performance of "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder.

The episode also features several instances of the judges disagreeing with each other's opinions on contestants. Nicki and Mariah in particular have a few heated exchanges over their evaluations of some of the performers. Nevertheless, they all ultimately come to a decision and award golden tickets to several deserving contestants.
