American Idol is a reality television show that first hit the small screen back in 2002. The show consists of a panel of judges who travel across the United States and hold auditions in front of a live audience, searching for the next big music star. The contestants are evaluated and whittled down until only one remains, crowned the American Idol.

Season 17 of the show kicked off with the first episode, titled Auditions 1. The judges this season are industry veterans Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. The trio are back and ready to find the next big superstar.

The episode starts off with a montage of last season's highlights, showcasing the incredible talent that graced the American Idol stage. The judges talk about how much they enjoyed the last season and how excited they are for this new season. They talk about how they've been gearing up for the auditions and the incredible talent they're expecting to see.

We're then taken to the first audition, held in Louisville, Kentucky. The first contestant to grace the stage is a young girl named Brooke who sings "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. The judges are impressed with her soulful voice and give her a golden ticket to move on to the next round. This sets the tone for the rest of the episode, as we witness a series of incredible auditions.

There's Shayla, a singer who overcame a difficult childhood and is looking to achieve her dream of being a musician. She performs "All I Could Do Was Cry" by Etta James and the judges are blown away by her powerful voice. Another standout audition is Alejandro, a quirky musician who performs an original song. The judges are impressed with his guitar skills and unique voice, and he easily earns a golden ticket.

The talent pool in Louisville is impressive, but the judges are looking for someone with that extra spark, that special something that sets them apart from the rest. Enter Eddie, a young man with a powerful voice who performs an original song. The judges are captivated by his performance and give him a standing ovation. Lionel Richie tells him that he's going to be a star, and he easily moves on to the next round.

With Louisville over, the judges head to Los Angeles for the next round of auditions. The first contestant is a young woman named Ashley who sings "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Roberta Flack. Her performance is confident and powerful, and the judges can't help but be impressed. She easily earns a golden ticket to move forward in the competition.

Another standout audition in Los Angeles is from a young man named Dimitrius. He performs "Latch" by Disclosure ft. Sam Smith and the judges are floored by his impressive range. Katy calls him a "diamond in the rough" and all three judges give him a unanimous yes.

The final audition of the episode is from Alejandro, the quirky musician from Kentucky. He performs an original song, "Out Loud", and the judges are once again impressed with his unique style. Lionel tells him that he has "one of the greatest voices" he's ever heard, and he easily earns a golden ticket to move forward in the competition.
